Devon offers a series of Development Centre training sessions for young players. Players should have the basic core skills of ball carry, push passing, hitting, tackling and some 1v1 elimination skills. The purpose is to give quality playing opportunities and access to high-level coaching, in preparation for the next county cycle.
Players are nominated by a school or club to attend. Sessions are for U12 (current school year 6/7) and U14 (current school year 8) players who did NOT play in the Devon County Teams the previous season. Current Years 9, 10 and 11 may go direct to County Trials in September.
Players in these year groups need to attend the Development Centres to receive a nomination to the Devon County Under 14 Trials in September.
Year groups
Year groups are counted as at the current school year (2026/27):
- Current Year 6 – children born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016
- Current Year 7 – children born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015
- Current Year 8 – children born between 1st September 2013 and 31st August 2014
What is involved
Players are expected to attend all 6 sessions. The cost of the programme is £60, payable through the Teamo app. Fees are non-refundable.

Centres and session times
Plymouth Marjon Hockey Centre, Derriford Road, Plymouth, PL6 8BH – Monday evenings, boys and girls, 18.30–20.00.
Exeter University Sports Park (sand pitch, park in car park B) – boys on Mondays, girls on Tuesdays, 18.30–20.00.
How to register

Please enter the player’s name and date of birth, not the parent’s. Brothers and sisters are held on the same account, so use the same email address for each child. Please complete all of the medical questions accurately – the coaches rely on this on the day.
Once you have registered, tell us which centre you would like – Plymouth or Exeter, boys or girls – and we will add the player to that Development Centre group.
Places are limited and early sign-up is recommended. If a centre reaches capacity we may close registration early and without notice.
